Outside the Box
On July 15, Fermata Town participated in the inaugural Outside The Box festival in the Boston Common. The Townies were selected as one of six groups to compete in the A Cappella Competition to sing for a chance at a $5,000 cash prize. Each competing group had a chance to sing one song in the opening round with a panel of three judges on stage to hear everything up close and personal. Following each song, groups would turn it over to the judges for some feedback. The judges would have the ultimate decision of sending two groups through to the final round.
Fermata Town was the last group to perform in the opening round and selected Lonely Boy as our song choice. The judges praised our arrangement and high energy on stage, commenting on how much fun we were having and how it came through in this song.
After some quick deliberation, all six groups were brought back on stage before it was announced that Fermata Town and BU Terpsichore would be moving on to the finals!
In keeping with the upbeat and fun theme, we decided to close the show with an oldie but a goodie, Seven Nation Army. Again the judges couldn’t say enough good things about the arrangement and loved the high energy environment we created on stage for the performance.
Both finalists were brought back on stage for the crowning on the first-ever Outside The Box A Cappella Champions. And the winner of the 2013 Outside The Box A Cappella Competition is: Fermata Town!
We were then presented with a jumbo check for $5,000!
What a fun event. We hope they bring it back again next summer! For a Day 3 Recap of Outside the Box click here!
